💡 SaaS Idea: PhotoVault Migrator

Web wizard that migrates Google Photos libraries (including albums, face tags, and metadata) to self-hosted solutions like Immich/PhotoPrism. Handles Docker setup, incremental sync and offers family-sharing front-end.

Platform: web

Why it's a good idea?

Problem Pain:

  • Thousands of Google-Photos users want to leave the Google ecosystem but dread the painful Takeout + command-line + manual Docker dance required to land everything (albums, face tags, metadata) into self-hosted apps such as Immich or PhotoPrism.
  • r/selfhosted and r/immich threads show the pain is real: – “Anyone have a solid plan/guide to transfer from Google Photos to Immich?” (Reddit, 28 upvotes, dozens of comments) – “The easiest way to transfer Gphotos/Albums?” (Reddit, 100+ comments over several threads) – Multiple GitHub discussions (#1340, #8866, #14477) requesting a simple ‘wizard’ for migration and ongoing sync.

Existing ‘Solutions’ (competitors):

  1. immich-go (open-source CLI written in Go). Handles uploads + albums, but: CLI only, no faces, no incremental sync, needs own Immich instance first – basically a script for power users.
  2. Google-photos-exif / other Python scripts – similar limitations, not productised.
  3. PhotoPrism docs describe a manual Takeout import. No automation.
  4. A handful of blog posts & YouTube tutorials (Coding Relic, Devroom, Chuck-Builds) – guides, not products. → No polished web wizard / SaaS that bundles Takeout parsi...
